This artwork is from a series of work based on the threat of invasive mining practices and its effect upon the land. Fracking involves extracting minerals through the fracturing of rock to capture pockets of deposits.

Through this process layers of water, oil and gas cannot be safely contained and predictably contaminate each other. This leads to poisoned waterways and land. This work portrays the layers of Papatuanuku.
