PAPATUANUKU - (VEINS)
Excerpt from ‘He Puna Roimata’ The story of the journey of a raindrop.
He melts into the leaves and earth of the forest floor, creeping slowly down the slanted ground, filling wormholes and following the roots of the trees into veins within the earth. The trees drink the water and the wetness keeps the forest floor damp for the insects and animals like kiwi and kauri snails to forage. The leaves rot down to enrich the soil to keep the forest healthy.
